1. About Beiko
Beiko ("we," "us," or "our") is a proximity-based social app operated by CuPod Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile app.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
Name and display name
Profile photo
Bio and profile content
Email address (used for account creation)
Interests (selected during onboarding)
Information collected automatically:
Precise location (required for core app functionality — showing nearby users)
Device identifiers and tokens (for push notifications and security)
Usage data (such as Sparks sent, connections made, and session activity)
In-app purchase history
User-generated content:
Chat messages between connected users
Profile content and interactions
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
Show your profile (name, photo, bio, and interests) as a pin on the map to nearby users during active sessions
Enable sending and receiving Sparks to connect with people nearby
Create connections and enable chat between users who mutually Spark each other
Send push notifications related to connections, messages, and activity
Process in-app purchases
Maintain safety, enforce our Terms of Service, and prevent abuse
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with:
Google Firebase (Google LLC) — for authentication, database (Firestore), storage, Cloud Messaging (FCM), and push notifications
Apple — for in-app purchase processing and push notification delivery
Twilio Inc. — our text-messaging provider. If you join a hang by text, Twilio delivers the texts between you and Beiko. Twilio processes your mobile number and those texts only to deliver them, and sees nothing else about you.
5. Location Data
Beiko requires access to your precise location to function. Your location is used only during active sessions to display nearby users. We do not retain long-term location history beyond what is necessary to operate the service.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data while your account is active. You may delete your account at any time within the app. Account deletion will permanently remove your profile, photos, connections, and chat history from our systems within a reasonable period.
7. Children's Privacy
Beiko is intended only for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under 18.
8. Security
All data is transmitted using secure encryption (HTTPS/TLS). We rely on industry-standard security practices and Firebase infrastructure to protect your data.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You may also delete your account directly within the app at any time.
10. Push Notifications
Beiko may send push notifications related to connections, messages, and activity. You can manage or disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
11. Text Messages (SMS)
Beiko can send text messages when you join a hang from a hang's web page ("Beiko hang texts"). Texts come from Beiko at (650) 334-0348.
How you opt in. On a hang's web page you enter your name and tick the box "I'm 18 or older and agree to receive recurring texts from Beiko about hangs: confirmations, reminders, host updates and invitations to other hangs. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help.", then tap "I'm in" and send the pre-written text to Beiko. If Messages doesn't open, you can enter your mobile number instead; we text you, and you reply YES. Either way you are agreeing to receive texts from Beiko about the hang you joined and about other Beiko hangs. Texts are not required to use Beiko — you can always join a hang in the Beiko app instead.
What you'll receive. Message frequency varies. For a hang you join by text you may receive a confirmation with a link to the hang's details, a reminder about two hours before, any change or cancellation by the host, and one message about the Beiko app. You may also receive invitations to other Beiko hangs. We also reply to texts you send us. Message and data rates may apply.
How to stop. Reply STOP at any time to end all texts from Beiko; reply START to resume. Reply OUT to leave a hang, and IN to rejoin it. Reply HELP for help, or email team@beiko.app. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
What we collect and why. Your mobile number, the name you enter, the hang you joined, the community it belongs to, and a record of your consent (the time and the words you agreed to). We use these only to send the texts described above, to show the name you entered on that hang's attendee list, and to keep the do-not-text list that stops texts to people who replied STOP.
Who can see what. The host and the other attendees see the name you entered — never your number. Your number is stored separately from the hang and is never shown on any page or included in any text to anyone else.
Sharing. No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Twilio, our messaging provider, processes your number and texts only to deliver them, as described under Data Sharing. We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
How long we keep it. We keep your mobile number for as long as you are on the Beiko hang texts list. If you reply STOP, we stop immediately and keep your number only on our do-not-text list, so we never text you again. To be removed entirely, email team@beiko.app with the mobile number you used; we delete it within 30 days. We keep records of consent for as long as the law requires.
Your choices. To see, correct or delete this information, email team@beiko.app and tell us the mobile number you used.
